Baby Driver Movie Track is in the Crosshairs of a Music License Lawsuit

The wildly successful film, Baby Driver, has landed Sony in the crosshairs of a music license lawsuit from the heir apparent of T-Rex band frontman, Marc Bolan. Bolan's son, Rolan Feld has sued Sony for the alleged impermissible use of the T-Rex track “Debora” in the Baby Driver film. Apparently, Mr. Feld acquired the music rights of his late father's music works including the track “Debora” in a 2014 settlement. As no music license was obtained by Sony, Mr. Feld is seeking disgorgement of profits and punitive damages. Given the movie's success and the efforts the filmmakers allegedly made in clearing other music tracks in the film before the movie was at Sony, it will be interesting to see whether a settlement is reached quickly.
